CRCL's Core Values

Mission

The Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties (CRCL) supports the Department’s mission to secure the nation while preserving individual liberty, fairness, and equality under the law.

CRCL's Core Values

Core values are the deeply ingrained tenets that guide all our actions. As an element of the Department, we embrace the core values of DHS: Integrity – Vigilance – Respect.

As an office created with the founding of the Department to preserve and protect civil rights and civil liberties of all persons who are or may be impacted by DHS policies and activities, our Core Values reflect this design and underpin everything we do at CRCL:

Integrity – Fairness – Respect – Teamwork

Our Core Values represent the ideal behaviors that will make us individually and collectively successful. They are rooted in our mission values (liberty, fairness, and equality under the law) and reflect what we aim to cultivate in our organization, what we value, and what we aspire to be.

  • Integrity means full alignment in what we think, say, and do with the highest ethical and professional standards.
  • Fairness means clear, objective, and equitable processes and decisions.
  • Respect means honoring and valuing each other, our expertise and experience, and our contribution.
  • Teamwork means working cohesively and collaboratively to achieve excellence and the highest quality result.
